Compare the game guide is a statistics site for the fastest growing entertainment and media area in the world , Electronic Gaming.  

We are careful not to say “computer games” because we are not just on about computers, and avoid the phrase ”console games” for the same reason.  

Have you ever watched a TV program and heard some views expressed about games. The assumptions that are made about the age of players, the cost of games, the type of games being played and the amount of time peole are devoting to their interactive entertainment?  

What staggered us was how just ”wrong” many of these assumptions are. The traditional media has gameplayers as “kids”. They seem unaware that the average age of gameplaying in USA and most of Europe is 33 years old. That’s an average. Meaning that half of gamers are actually older than that!  

Violence, time spent playing instead of other activities, these are all fodder for the press whenever there is a gaming controversy.  

We are not here to say these accusations are “good” or “bad” – just to look at the facts. The age of gamers is one. But what about the other trends  

• How many people are playing games?
• What sort of games are they playing?
• How much time do they spend?
• How much money does this cost?
• What equipment do they own?
• What genre makes the most money?
• Where is the game industry in relation to other media industries (TV, film etc)?
• What science is there to support “addiction” and other conditions attributed to games?
• How much do games cost to make?
• What is selling NOW?
• What equipment is supported by the most software both on the shelf and in development?

… and a hundred more questions.  

Compare the game will have the stats, updated and presented in a simple form, for people to make their own mind up. From which game or genre is hot, to discussions on the effect of exposure to violence in games. We do not shrink away from the facts, and will endevour to put in as little editorial as possible in the main articles.  

Gaming is huge, it is not well understood by large areas of “connected” society. It is open to assumptions and accusations. We will have no bias. We will just present the facts – as they are.
